FAQ - Cosmetic Tattooing Eligibility Check
Cosmetic Tattoos are awesome procedures and something we are very passionate about at Gingerella Rox! But before you book your appointment, please make sure you read ALL questions below to ensure you are a suitable candidate. We would hate for you to make an appointment, be all excited and have to be turned away on the day. This would make both of us very sad and disappointed.
If you arrive your appointment and cannot have your brows done for any reason that is on this FAQ page, your deposit is forfeited no exceptions.
All questions below relate to Blush Lip Tattooing too.
If there is any other questions not listed below please do not hesitate to contact us on 0435 528750 and one of our Cosmetic Tattoo Artists will get back to you asap.
ARE YOU A REGISTERED SKIN PENETRATION CLINIC?
Yes, Gingerella Rox is a registered skin penetration clinic and we follow very strict hygiene and safety protocols.
DO YOU TATTOO THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18?
We are happy to perform Brow Tattoo's for those aged 16+. Our personal policy is that we require 1 form of formal identification such as a passport and a parent or guardian - also with identification - must be there throughout the process to sign all documentation.
CAN I HAVE THE PROCEDURE WHILST PREGNANT?
We cannot tattoo anyone while pregnant, nor do we recommend getting cosmetic tattooing while breast-feeding unless you express for 48 hours. This is due to topical anaesthetics used.
CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN TO MY BROW APPOINTMENT?
Unfortunately, due to strict licensing laws and our layout in our salon, no children under the age of 14 can accompany you to your brow/lash appointment.
Children can be left in Reception, however, they must have a guardian with them over the age of 18. Under no circumstances can Reception supervise your children. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
The first part of the tattoo process is a consultation. This is normally done as part of your initial treatment, but can be done separately if you prefer. Seperate consultation fee is $50, this fee is fully redeemable against the price of your tattoo if you decide to proceed. You will fill out a medical history form, then your Artist will talk with you in great detail about the look you are trying to achieve and what we might recommend to you. This is very much a two-way conversation. We listen, we respond, we advise. Once we have an idea of the look you are aiming for, we draw the brows/lips on with a makeup pencil. These can be drawn on and adjusted 50 times if necessary! We will never begin the tattoo process until you are completely happy with what they are going to look like.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A COSMETIC TATTOO APPT?
The initial procedure/appointment takes 1.5 - 3 hrs approx dependent on what Cosmetic Tattoo method you choose. We mark out the shape on you, taking your facial features and shape into account. We then choose a colour which suits your skintone and features.
OCD - If you suffer from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Brow Tattoos may not be the best treatment for you as your eyebrows will NEVER be 100% identical. It is impossible to create 100% identical brows especially with Microblading as we are replicating tiny hairstrokes. Our faces are NOT symmetrical, and our eyebrows are supposed to be sisters not twins, however as Brow Artists, we aim to create as much symmetry as possible.
The area is marked with a surgical pen, then the semi-permanent pigment is applied with a hand-held tool or a machine dependent on what method you have chosen. The pigment is placed into the upper layers of the dermis.
WHAT ARE THE PIGMENTS?
We use Tina Davies Permablend pigments. These are the best on the market and the healing results are amazing.
PERFECTION VISIT - INITIAL TOUCH UP
We must wait a full 4-6 weeks with brows and 8 weeks with lips before the Perfection Visit is performed to allow the ink to fully settle into the skin. We highly recommend booking in your Perfection Visit at the time of booking in your first appt as all our Cosmetic Tattooists book up weeks in advance. Your first Perfection Touch Up for Microblading is $99, Ombre Brows is $149, Blush Lips is $149.
With brows it is RARE for a third visit to be required. However, if the optimum result is not achieved a 3rd visit may be required. If you need a 3rd appointment for your brows it is only $49 however, you MUST contact us within 3 weeks since your last treatment and it MUST be completed within 6 weeks since the last treatment. Out with the 6-week period it is strictly normal Touch Up prices. This is for HEALING ISSUES ONLY, IF YOU ARE WANTING TO SIMPLY CHANGE THE COLOUR IT IS A $149 FEE.
With lips, you may need a small 3rd appointment if you want the lips darker etc - this is $149.
The procedures are semi-permanent, so will begin to noticeably fade after 9-12 months. Dependent on how your skin is. Your Tattoo will need to be maintained (Touch Ups). Maintenance varies from person to person; some clients may need more visits than others and also what method of tattoo you choose. Fading can be due to various reasons i.e. fast metabolisms, oilier skin, lifestyle factors etc. The majority of our clients have their brow tattoos touched up every 9-12 months.
OUR TOUCH UP PRICES ARE STRICTLY FOR GINGERELLA ROX CLIENTS. If you are brand new to Gingerella, it is full price first time.
CAN I CHANGE FROM FEATHER TOUCH BROWS TO POWDER/OMBRE OR COMBINATION METHOD?
Yes you certainly can! If you have previously had your brows tattooed at Gingerella Rox before, it is just an extra $200 on top of your Touch Up price. (Please check individual method for Touch Up prices). THIS WILL THEN BE A 3 HOUR APPT.
DO I NEED TO PLAN FOR MY TREATMENT?
Sun bathing whilst your tattooed area is healing will dramatically fade the tattoo, even if you wear a sunhat. That is not to say you can't sit in the sun at all, it does however mean that sunbathing whilst healing is not wise. Sunscreen (Factor 50) on your brows after the healing phase is over is also recommend every day which will make your brow tattoos last so much longer.
Swimming in the ocean or a chlorine filled pool is unwise during the healing phase, as Chlorine will bleach the healing brow, and the salt in the ocean will pull out the pigment. Please be aware of this when scheduling your tattoo.
HOW WILL MY BROWS/LIPS LOOK AFTER TREATMENT?
The area treated will be darker and more intense, this is normal. This will last a few days until the skin heals and naturally exfoliates and the true colour emerges. The brows will look very sharp, however once healed they are much softer looking. The brows may also appear thicker than you might like, however, this settles after 7-10 days, as swelling recedes the brows will shorten slightly as a result. Swelling/oedema with brows is very minimal; however it must be mentioned that some swelling may happen. Swelling with lips is very normal.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE?
It is extremely important you read the Pre-tattoo Information pack that has been sent to you fully. This has all Aftercare information included.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Most clients feel little to nothing at all (with brows), however everyone's pain level is different. Topical cream is applied 15-30 min prior to procedure, and a liquid topical anaesthetic is applied during the procedure. Some clients naturally feel more pain at times of menstruation. If you are extremely sensitive to pain you can also speak to your Doctor/ Pharmacist beforehand and ask them to advise you for pain relief.
Lips are slightly more sensitive than brows. But we use the best numbing agents.
DO YOU CORRECT OTHER PEOPLES WORK?
Due to the popularity of Brow Tattoos there has been a huge rise in the amount of Brow Artists having only undergone a one-day course. This is the reason why we get asked almost daily to correct another person's work. We do understand that everyone has to start somewhere but please ensure that you do extensive research before selecting your Brow Artist. If they have recently qualified, you must be aware that you cannot expect absolute perfection.
If you pay cheap for your tattoo, you cannot expect to have perfect results.
We will consult with you and decide between us which is the best way to IMPROVE your brow tattoos and if we can help you, we will do our very best.
We have improved many a bad job but please remember that your old tattoos cannot be completely disguised nor, will they be 100% perfect. If you want your old tattoos completely gone and a perfect Brow Tattoo I recommend having your old tattoos removed first or waiting until they fade completely.
Please note: If your tattoos are extremely bad (as in horrendous shape) we will not touch your brows. We take each case on an individual basis, please send pictures of your brows in daylight (front on and side) to email@example.com we will get back to you asap.
If we can help you, we will 100% try our hardest.
I AM ABOUT TO UNDERGO CHEMOTHERAPY, CAN I HAVE MY TATTOOING BEFORE MY TREATMENT?
Ideally yes! It would be great to do your brows before you lose your hair, however; we do work with many cancer patients/alopecia sufferers etc who have no hair altogether. If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy, we would need a letter from your Oncologist with their approval. If you have your brows done before you start your chemo, it is usual in this instance to have your top up after the cancer treatment is complete, or sooner if your oncologist approves.
ARE YOU GETTING SURGERY AROUND THE TIME OF YOUR APPOINTMENT?
Minor surgical procedures - we would recommend having them at least 3 weeks before or after your treatment. Any other surgery that you need a general anaesthetic for, we would recommend waiting at least 4 weeks before your appointment. If you are unsure, please consult with your doctor before making your appointment.
CLIENTS ON BLOODTHINNERS
Clients who are on these medications must check with their doctor if it is ok to go ahead. It is in my experience that clients on Aspirin/Warfarin that the result can take up to 3/4 visits to achieve the optimum result. This is because the pigment may not sit very well into the hairstroke made, due to blood flow, and its thinness. If you need additional touch ups due to being on blood thinners it is $99 per touch up appt.
FISH OIL & IBUPROFEN
Fish oils and Ibuprofen thins the blood which causes the wound to reject pigment therefore often results in poor tattoo retention. If you are taking them for a boost please discontinue use for a MINIMUM of 7 days prior to your procedure, preferably longer. If you have been advised to take them for medical reasons, please consult wih your medical practitioner. Never stop medication without your practitioners advice. This may mean you will need an additional Perfection Visit to achieve optimal results.
WRINKLE RELAXERS & FILLERS
Please ensure you have your Botox/Dysport/Fillers etc at least 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your Brow Tattoo appointment.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH TOPICAL ANAESTHETICS?
We use a combination of topical anaesthetics. First we use a pre numbing cream, then a liquid/gel which contains an adrenaline. Please call 0435 528750 and chat to one of our team to discuss any issues you may have BEFORE booking your appointment.
DO YOU TAKE ROACCUTANE OR RETINOL, VITAMIN A, OR RETIN-A?
All medications come into play with the skin. This means that if you are on daily medication you will most certainly need a Perfection Visit.
If you take Roaccutane, Retina, AHA, Glycolic, Doxycycline, and some other medications, you will need to wait 6 - 12 months from your last tablet before getting a cosmetic tattoo (please call and confirm with salon), this is due to thinning of the skin and running the risk of scarring.
If you turn up for your appt and we cannot do your brows for these above reasons, you will lose your deposit.
ARE YOU DIABETIC?
Diabetics and those with autoimmune disorders may manifest poor wound healing. For diabetics this is especially true if their blood sugar is poorly controlled. With Diabetics, we do ask them to consult their doctor before their appointment to ensure they are a suitable candidate for cosmetic tattooing.
If you have a history of keloid scarring, we would not recommend Cosmetic Tattooing. If you are still wanting to go ahead, we would need clearance from your doctor and you need to sign an extra form.
BLOOD CLOTTING PROBLEMS
We would need a clearance letter from your doctor and also you would need to discuss this with us via phone before booking an appointment.
Hormonal imbalances and or medications/remedies may cause cosmetic pigment to fade quicker and can sometimes (although very rare) alter change in colour due to pigment base tone. Please bear this in mind when booking your appointment.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY REACTIONS TO HAIR DYE, HENNA ETC?
Please ensure you make Reception aware of this whilst booking your appt. Even though our pigments are not the same, you may need to come in for a patch test before your appt.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Cancellations/rescheduling within 72 hours of treatment will result in deposit being forfeited - no exceptions.
Please do not bring any children under the age of 18 with you to your tattoo appointment. Our insurance does not allow anyone under the age of 18 in the tattoo room nor can they be left in Reception unsupervised without an adult. This also includes your Perfection Visit.
